Books Update…

Books for grades 1 to 6 have been revised and new international editions have come out in the market.

From next academic year (2012-13), each grade (from gr 1 to gr 6) will have separate books. (as against this academic year during which gr 5 book was also given to gr 6)

In the new edition, some lessons have been removed and so the books appear to be a bit thinner now.

Salat-ut-Taraweeh

1. In Arabic, Taraweeh means ‘to relax in short rests’. Why do you think we call the night prayers of Ramadan Salat-ut-Taraweeh?

This is because we take a short break after every two Rak’aat.

2. How was the Prophet considerate of his followers? Why were his actions wise?

* He was considerate as he did not pray Taraweeh in Jama’ah every night.

* His actions were wise because he knew if he prayed with them every night Muslims would then take Taraweeh as compulsory.

3. What is the difference between Salat-ut-Taraweeh and Qiyam-ul-Layl?

Salat-ut-Taraweeh                                                            Qiyam-ul-Layl

1. Prayed right after Ishaa prayer                                          1. Prayed in the middle of the night or before Fajr.

2. Has definite number of Rak’aats (8 or 20)                     2. No definite number.

3. Prayed only in Ramadan                                                    3. Prayed in Ramadan and in other months as well.

4. What is Salat-ut-Taraweeh?

These are special prayers offered in the month of Ramadan.

5. Is it Fard (compulsory) or Sunnah (encouraged)?

It is Sunnah.

6. How and when does a person pray Taraweeh?

* It is prayed in the units of Two Rak’aats.

* It can be prayed as 8 or 20 Rak’aats.

* It is prayed right after Ishaa prayer, and before Witr prayer.

7. Why is it good to pray Taraweeh?

As all our past sins will be forgiven, it is good for us to pray Taraweeh in all the nights of Ramadan.

Mubtilaat-us-Siyam: Things That Break The Fast

1. Why was Mona so worried about breaking her fast?

This was because she took a bite of her apple and forgot that she was fasting that day.

2. How is Allah kind to us during Ramadan?

* Allah accepts our fast as valid if we forget and eat.

* He allows us to break our fast if we travel or become sick.

3. Who does not need to fast? Why Not?

* Sick

* Old people

* Pregnant or breastfeeding women

* Travellers

These Muslims are exempted to fast as they are excused.

4. What do you need to do if you miss a fast?

If I miss my fast then it is best for me to make it up as soon as possible after Ramadan.

5. Which actions are classified as mubtilat-us-siyam?

Eating, drinking, saying bad words, hurting others, and behaving with bad manners.

6. Why does Allah excuse our fasts in certain situations but we are never permitted to leave the Salah?

* Fasting may harm our health when we are sick or travelling while Salah would not harm us.
