Month of Safar: Facts and Fiction

Safar, the 2nd month of the Islamic Calendar, has commenced, alhamdulillaah.

Quoting authentic references, I would like to dispel certain false beliefs and superstitious customs which are unfortunately found prevalent among some sections of Muslim society with regard to the month of Safar. 

Some Muslims believe that this month brings bad luck; it is a month of bad omen, we must not initiate any good work in this month, one must not marry blah, blah…….all stupid, baseless thoughts!!

Objectives of the ISLAMIC WEEK:

  1. To create an awareness on the importance of living Islam.
  2. To contribute and channelize one’s creative ideas for the collective good of the society
  3. To focus on the importance of Islamic values.
  4. To involve and share real life experiences with one’s peers.
  5. To understand the importance of healthy competition.
  6. To appreciate the teachings of Islam as relevant to the modern society.

Added attraction this year will be the ISLAMIC BOOK STALL during the Week, inshaaAllah. Students, parents and teachers will get an opportunity to buy Islamic books of their choice, InshaaAllah.

A cursory glance at the Activity Schedule will reveal that we have covered all areas of competitions for different levels of students, ranging from FS to the Year 11, alhamdulillaah.

Morning Assembly will be conducted according to the nature of the Week, inshaaAllah.

I hope that the ISLAMIC WEEK will create an awareness of Islamic Values among one and all.

May Allah accept our effort and reward us abundantly.

May He make our intentions pure and sincere. Aameen.

Inter-School Qur’an Competition

GEMS WESTMINSTER SCHOOL SHARJAH organised an Inter-School Qur’an Recitation and Memorization Competition on the 1st of May 2017 and it was a huge success by the grace of Allah.

13 schools took part in the competition, and the participating schools were:

  1. Al Amana Private School
  2. Al Ansar International School
  3. Al Zuhour Private school
  4. Australian International school
  5. Gems Millenium school
  6. Gems Westminster school Dubai
  7. Gems Westminster school Sharjah
  8. Gulf Asian school
  9. India International school
  10. Our own English boys school Sharjah
  11. Our own English girls school Sharjah
  12. Scholar International School
  13. Wesgreen International School Sharjah

Competition was for 4 categories: Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary for the Qur’an Memorization Competition, and a separate  Nasheed competition which was open for all categories.

Eminent Judges were from Sharjah Awqaf and the competition was tough especially for the Secondary level.

Ministry Exam in Sharjah, May/June 2017

Today we got the Portion for the Ministry Exam to be conducted in the Emirate of Sharjah for the Year ending 2016-17.

Grade 10, 11 and 12 will write their Islamic Studies Exam on 29th May 2017.

And Grades 6 to 9 will have theirs on 8th June 2017.
