  1. Assalamualaikum
    Dear Sir,
My son now in Grade 9 in an International School and we are confused either to study Islamic Studies or Islamiyat. The school is offering both subjects for the students without any detailed for the purposes to take either of the subjects. we are Arabic tongue speakers and our country selection to the universities are subject to Arabic language and Islamic mainly then the other subjects. please advice which one is suitable for our son
    Jazak Allah khair in advance

    • Dear Brother,
Wa alaikumus Salam Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu.

Studying ‘Islamic Studies’ is compulsory in UAE. Whereas you study ‘Islamiyat’ by your option/choice.
If the school is offering both, then it means that there is an option for your son to opt for ‘Islamiyat’ as a cambridge subject. The other ‘Islamic Studies’ is the prescribed one by the UAE Ministry for all schools to teach it compulsorily.

If choosing Islamiyat is going to help your son in future in his higher studies, then opting for it is a good choice.

‘Islamiyat’ is offered by the Cambridge in English language only.

Hope this clarifies your doubt, inshaAllah.

PS: I would add one thing here. Cambridge also offers Arabic as First Language. If this is going to help in your country (as you are native Arabic speaker) then you can ask your son’s school to allow him to take the Arabic subject.
